Current Staff and Students
Kanzis Mattu
Kanzis is a 4th year PhD student studying for her PhD under the supervison of Dr Chris White (University of Strathclyde), myself, and Dr Joanna Robbins (UK Met Office) on the topic of The applicability of climate services and impact-based forecasting approaches to compound events.
Her first research paper has been characterising Cold-Dry and Cold-Wet Compound Events in the United Kingdom. Subsequent chapters are exploring the relationship between weather patterns and compound cold events on the Scottish Rail sector i ncollaboration with Network Rail, and how this information can be used to inform a future impact-based forecasting system.
Kanzis previous completed her MSc thesis at the University of Reading where her dissertation project was on The impact of tropical cyclones on potential offshore wind farms.
Matthew Calladine
Matthew is a 2nd year PhD student at Newcastle University working on The impacts of cliamte variabiltiy and climate change on the Indian power system. He is co-supervised by Dr David Greenwood (Newcastle) Dr Haider Ali (Newcastle) and Dr Kieran Hunt (University of Reading).
Matthew's been exploring the avialability of high spatial and temporal resolutio CMIP6 data over India and the impacts of climate change on wind and solar power data over this region.
He has also developed a weather-dependent demand model for Indian regions and future work will explore the climate change impacts on demand. The long-term aim is that these will all be inputs to a power system Modelling
framework to understand the impacts of climate change on the Indian Power System. <\p>
Dea Bestari
Dea is a 1st Year PhD student at Newcastle Univesrity co-supervised by Dr Craig Robson. Dea's project explores The Climate-Energy-Land Use Nexus towards an Energy Transition in Indonesisa. Dea is sponsored by the Indonesian Meteorological Service (BMKG)
Natthanan (Elle) Suksuwan
Elle is a first year PhD student at Newcastle University working on Integrated Climate and PV Sustainability Assessment of Solar Power System in Thailand. She is co-supervised by Prof Oliver Heidrich (Newcastle) and funded from the Thai Government.
Érika Boisvert-Vigneaul
Érika is a 1st Year PhD student at Northumbria Univesrity supervised by Dr Mel Sandells and Dr Nick Rutter. Érika's project is on Monitoring and Predicting Rain-on-Snow Events in the Canadian Arctic Archipelago. This involves a combination of fieldwork and snopack modelling, incorporating meteorological data. Understanding these events is of key importance for animals living in the region needing access to the land-surface for food. This is limited when there is a rain on snow event.
