Science Engagement Fellowship

In June 2022 I started a 1 year role as a Royal Meteorological Society (RMetS) Science Engagement Fellow. This is a fantastic opportunity to support RMetS in the delivery of their Climate Action Plan but also to further develop my network of industry stakeholder and leading academics. Three new special interest groups are being developed. These focus on:

The Energy Sector.
The insurance Sector.
Early Career Researchers.

What is the Royal Meteorological Society?

The Royal Meteorological Society works to strengthen the science and raise awareness of the importance of weather and climate, support meteorological professionals and inspire enthusiasts. Anyone who is interested or involved in meteorology or associated sciences can join. The worldwide membership is made up of professionals and academics, students and teachers, enthusiasts and observers, and there is a category to suit everyone.

Meteorological Masterclasses

RMetS reguarly host free CPD training sessions on topical weather and climate phenomena. For example in winter 2021-22 there are masterclasses on North Atlantic and European Cyclones and The Role of the Jet Stream in Weather, Predictability, and Climate. Check out the website for upcoming events.

Insurance Specific Events

The Royal Meteorological Society Insurance Special interest group are organising a range of useful events for the sector, including a journal paper showcase. , networking events, and thought leadership activities.

RMetS Climate Change Forum

The Royal Meteorological Society hosted their second climate change forum focussed around the transport, food, and buildings sector. The morning included keynotes from experts, with interactive discussions in the afternoon.

CGFI Connect - Insurance and Climate Science: Bringing together research and practice

The UK Centre for Greening Finance and Investment (CGFI) and Royal Meteorological Society (RMetS) Insurance Special Interest Group are holding a half-day event to share challenges, ideas and solutions around the implementation of climate and environmental data and research in insurance.
